"WHAT IS A SWEETHEART?"
Hi folks, this is Two Texas PawPaw. Some of you out there, if not all of you, might get tired of me talking about my wife, but I never get tired of writing about her, so grin and bear it. We were married in Sept of 1953 and she had just turned 16 in Feb. Everyone said we were too young and it would never last, but I guess after 52 years, we fooled them all. In 1977, she turned 40 and I wrote her a poem on her 40th birthday. I call it, "What Is A Sweetheart?" It goes like this-----TODAY YOU'RE TURNING 40 AND I'VE LOVED YOU FROM THE START---AND NOW I WANT TO TELL YOU, "WHAT IS A SWEETHEART"---A SWEET HEART IS THE SOMEONE YOU WOULD WRITE A BOOK ABOUT---THE ONE YOU LOVE TO BE WITH AND WOULD HATE TO BE WITHOUT---A SWEETHEART IS A KNOWING LOOK, A HAND WITHIN YOUR OWN---THE VOICE YOU ALWAYS WANT TO HEAR WHEN YOU PICK UP THE PHONE---A SWEETHEART UNDERSTANDS YOUR MOODS, AND LAUGHS AT THINGS YOU SAY---OR SEES YOU WHEN YOU'RE AT YOUR WORST BUT LOVES YOU ANYWAY---A SWEETHEART IS THE ONE YOU KISS AND MAKE-UP WITH AGAIN---WHEN THERE IS A LITTLE DIFFERENCE OF OPINION NOW AND THEN---A SWEETHEART IS THE SOMEONE THAT YOU'RE ALWAYS THINKING OF---AND THE VERY SPECIAL REASON WHY YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE IN LOVE---AT FORTY YOU'RE AS FULL OF LOVE AS YOU COULD EVER BE---THAT IS WHAT A SWEETHEART IS, AND YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO ME-----Feb 11, 1977. This is Two Texas PawPaw, signing off, and, the good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, I'll be back tomorrow.
