Hi folks, this is Two Texas PawPaw. Time to step on some toes. My wife and I sat down to watch the country music awards on television Monday night and what a surprise. IS THAT COUNTRY MUSIC NOW? First of all the host is usually someone in the business. JEFF FOXWORTHY? Come on now, this guy is a comedian and his stuff was not even funny. In fact, it made no sense. People were not even laughing. And his partner, Larry the Cable Guy was somewhere else doing a skit on Out Behind the Buses and his stuff was worse than Foxworthy. He was suppose to be reporting country news and after a few bad jokes, he said he would be back later for more news. They never went back to him, the rest of his part was cut out. And 90% of the music was sang by somebody new, half naked, in jeans and a tank top. What ever happened to dress jeans, western shirts and hats. There was no such thing as a best male singer, best female singer, or entertainer of the year. The awards were for MALE video, FEMALE video and Video of the year. I guess the reason for that was, they didn't have anybody they could call the best. The only bright spot of the whole show was two awards won by Carrie Underwood and she deserved them. At least she knows how to dress and she is not only talented, she is beautiful. The same songs were nominated for every catagory. Great country singers nominated were completely overlooked. Faith Hill performed and had several nominations. One of our greatest country ladies today, and the closest she got was accepting an award for some director of a song. The Director wasn't even there. The only other song receiving an award that was worthy was "WHEN I GET TO WHERE I'M GOING" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton and the award was accepted by Martina McBride because Paisley and Parton were not in the building. The greatest singer in country music, with more number 1 hits than anybody, even more than Presley or the Beatles, has a new album, single and video out called "ON THE SEASHORES OF OLD MEXICO". He, George Strait, was not mentioned the whole show. Where was Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, George Jones, Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Reba McIntire, Lorrie Morgan, Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Sara Evans, Josh Turner, and all the other great people who layed the foundation for those rockers to bring their freaky style to country music. Come to think of it, that's probably why Strait and the rest of them didn't show up. The performances they had on the show, all except two or three, the music was so loud, you couldn't understand the words, the lights were moving so fast, you couldn't see who was singing, and the smoke, at times, was so thick, my wife was even coughing in our living room. I am in complete agreement with George (Dusty) Strait in the movie PURE COUNTRY: What ever happened to just the singer and his guitar. And the dumbest highlight of the evening, Hank Williams, Jr was arrested last week for sexually assaulting a waitress, carried to jail, posted bond and has a trial awaiting him. This is the guy they awarded the Johnny Cash Visionary Award. I know Johnny is gone but I hope he or June neither one get wind of that blunder. And the presenters: KID ROCK? JENNIFER BERRY, MISS AMERICA, SHE LOOKED OUT OF PLACE AND KNEW IT. They finally brought on a Legend at the end of the show. He presented the Video Of The Year Award to the winner. You could tell when he called out the name of Keith Urban, from way down under, Australia I believe, Kenny Rogers thought it was dumb too. And poor old Dwight Yoakum, he came on to pay tribute to Buck Owens and that was great because Buck deserved it. But folks, 47 seconds, how can you pay justifiable tribute to anyone in 47 seconds. Dwight was on and off so fast, you hardly realized who he was talking about. Well, I'm quiet sure there is a lot of people who will not agree with me, but that is how I feel, just in case anyone reads this. I may get sued but what the heck, they can't get what you ain't got. Maybe the awards show will improve next year, I hope so. Until then, this is Two Texas PawPaw, signing off, and, the good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, I will return.
